Images from Pan-STARRS telescope, PS1
Optical elements provided by ROC
The Panoramic Survey Telescope & Rapid Response System. A very successful project that among the many science goals they are working on, is “to discover and characterize Earth approaching objects, both asteroids and comets that might pose a danger to our planet.”
If you want an overview of the project and learn why it is important to humanity as described by the scientists and engineers in the project, watch this movie.
These are some of the beautiful images taken with the PS1 telescope even before the telescope was optimized. Many thanks to Dr. Jeff Morgan for supplying the pictures.
ROC has provided the following optics to the project.
- PS1 telescope M1, M2, L1, L3
- PS2 telescope M1, M2, L1, L2, L3
The sizes of the optics are;
- M1 1.8m diameter
- M2 970mm diameter
- L1 620mm diameter
- L2 580mm diameter
- L3 520mm diameter
